Hitchhiker’s Guide to a Monday morning after daylight savings time and a dead deer

googledoodle-douglasadamsThis morning my phone rang before 5:30 am. At first I thought my alarm was going off and I growled, then I turned to see it was an actual phone call. That’s when you feel panic ripping through your chest. It was my husband’s name on the screen and I fumbled past Amelia to answer. (Baby girl was laying with me in bed). “I hit a deer.” Slowly processing I asked, “You what?” He repeats “I hit a deer, I’m okay but the Jeep is not.” This is when the emotional rush of hearing there has been an accident and then hearing my husband is okay and then processing the Jeep is damaged and then thinking about waking the three kids and packing them up to go get him… it was rapid fire synapses exploding in my groggy morning brain. Fortunately, Brian was able to drive the Jeep home. Not all of the pieces of the Jeep made it home but we do have a nice piece of deer in the front left bumper and along the left driver door. GEW!

Not only was this weekend DayLight Savings..and so we lost an hour, although I’m sure with three kids we have in effect lost years of hours over the last decade. So really what is one hour over the weekend? But it does impact everyone. You wake up and it is dark! Plus there was very thick fog going on this morning. Oh yeah. And a deer. o_O

Anyway, I’m at work now, the kids are all where they need to be and hopefully my husband has taken some Advil and can try to unwind a bit after his eventful morning.

Google has a fun interactive Google Doodle up this morning. It’s in honor of Douglas Adams, this would have been his 61st birthday. Adams is best known for the five-novel “trilogy” “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” which began as a 1978 comedy series on the BBC (where the young Adams worked as a producer) and, as a result of its popularity, was adapted into book form.

The Google Doodle, complete with audio, has several endings. You push the “Don’t Panic” button and then see something like a goldfish being eaten or a graphic of the Earth. You can also click on the elevator  and other places in the Doodle to see an animation and hear the sci-fi “wooo oooo ooo” sound. It’s pretty cool, I enjoyed it and I hope you do, too.
