Oberhofer‘s brand new collection of songs from his new EP NOTALGIA is out on Glassnote.
Written and recorded in Brooklyn, the songs continue to show Brad Oberhofer’s progression as a songwriter, all the while matched with the catchy hooks and effect driven guitars we have come to love and expect from the band.
The tracks have a sunny quality to them, as Noisey when premiering “You & Me (In The Future)” advised listeners, “do yourself a favor and listen to the track out-of-doors,” even though the subject matter for the EP explores much more serious issues.
Brad told Rolling Stone, “When people are addicted to drugs or depressed, they are often sucked into a world that makes it impossible to think beyond sadness or to absorb any emotional support from friends and family.” He goes on, “In the past few years, I’ve lost some friends to things like this. In those situations, there was nothing I could have said to help them. They couldn’t have heard me if they’d tried.”
Still, despite the heavy themes, the songs still carry the irresistible qualities that make you keep wanting to go back for more. Spin reflected this sentiment when posting “Together Never:” writing, “Oberhofer surveys the gap between twentysomething fatalism and idealism.”
