Naomi Watts as the Princess of Wales on the big screen

IMG_5036.CR2I’ve been seeing pictures and hearing about the upcoming movie Diana, but I’m excited to announce the teaser for the upcoming eOne film, DIANA, has just debuted! DIANA, starring Naomi Watts as the Princess of Wales, takes audiences into the private realm of one of the world’s most iconic and inescapably public women.

Seriously, I remember, sadly, when Princess Diana was killed and I remember my Mom being so affected by the tragedy. I remember having Princess Diana paper dolls growing up and always dressing up the paper doll in the most lavish of gowns (albeit paper gowns). Princess Diana captivated not juts her country, but the entire world. She showed a calm nobility and yet had such a presence and sense of compassion about her no matter the venue she appeared in and I think that is what made her so amazing.

Princess Diana never appeared out of touch or too big for her britches. She remained down-to-earth and yet regal at the same time. The outreach she had was because she had such a big heart, she really took the time to make a difference on a personal level with people and not just by donating money but by giving of herself.

DIANA takes audiences into the private realm of one the world’s most iconic and inescapably public women — the Princess of Wales, Diana (two-time Oscar® nominee NAOMI WATTS) — in the last two years of her meteoric life. On the occasion of the 16th anniversary of her sudden death, acclaimed director Oliver Hirschbiegel (the Oscar®-nominated Downfall) explores Diana’s final rite of passage: a secret love affair with Pakistani heart surgeon Hasnat Khan (NAVEEN ANDREWS, “Lost,” The English Patient), the human complications of which reveal the Princess’s climactic days in a compelling new light.

Hirschbiegel directs from a screenplay by award-winning playwright Stephen Jeffreys, inspired by the book Diana: Her Last Love by Kate Snell, which was in turn drawn from extensive interviews with close friends and confidantes. The result is a window into the tumultuous, change-filled period from 1995-1997, in the wake of Diana’s shattering divorce from Prince Charles, and at the moment when she stood on the cusp of a different life, evolving into a global humanitarian, a master of maneuvering fame and becoming her own woman.

eOne Films proudly presents DIANA, which will be released this Fall. The film is produced by Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae of Ecosse Films (Nowhere Boy, Wuthering Heights, Mrs Brown). Matt Delargy and James Saynor (also of Ecosse) co-produce alongside Paul Ritchie. The executive producers are Tim Haslam, Mark Woolley and Xavier Marchand. Journalist and documentary filmmaker Kate Snell serves as associate producer. The cast, led by Naomi Watts and Naveen Andrews, also includes Douglas Hodge, Geraldine James, Charles Edwards and Juliet Stevenson.
