Everest preparing new album release and beginning a tour with Neil Young

Filled with lush guitar riffs and rich harmonies, Everest have unleashed a new track “Raking Me Over The Coals,” from their upcoming album Ownerless (out June 26th on ATO Records).

“Raking Me Over The Coals” is the result of a collaboration between singer Russell Pollard and Gary Louris. “ Gary came over with his guitar and we set up a little writing workshop in my living room” Pollard explains. “It was January of 2011 in Los Angeles and it was cold, overcast, and Gary and I just so happened to be in a similar head space. Raking Me Over The Coals reflects how we were feeling that day. Questioning, heartbroken and battling the daily drag in order to ultimately, keep ourselves together and to keep going.”

Everest has also just unveiled a month long tour with Neil Young this fall. Back in 2010, the band was hand-selected by Young to accompany him on tour. This November, Everest will share the stage again with Neil, kicking off the tour in Seattle’s Key Arena. Joining Neil Young and Everest on tour for select dates are Los Lobos and Patti Smith.

Area 52: Rodrigo y Gabriela’s first recorded collaboration

“Juan Loco” is a compelling and powerful representation of the unique hybrid of metal, latin and jazz that is the unmistakable signature of Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero. For Area 52, the duo took their sound a step further into the unknown — “Juan Loco” now boasts a 13-piece Cuban Orchestra and brilliant bass by Carles Benavent, who has played with the likes of Paco De Lucia, Chick Corea and Miles Davis.

About the track, Rodrigo says, “For ‘Juan Loco,’ we decided to get Carles Benavent to play the bass as well as he did on 11:11 because it felt like he could just change the rhythm in terms of the bass line, in terms of making it a little bit less latin and more kind of his way – you know, which could be jazzy, could be more flamenco based style or whatever. And it goes well with the guitars because it’s a very hyper-active track in terms of playability and he suits perfectly for these kinds of tracks.”

Rodrigo y Gabriela – Juan Loco (feat. CUBA) by ATO Records

Area 52 was produced by the legendary Peter Asher and will come out on January 24, 2012. The record contains nine of Rod and Gab’s favorite songs from their own catalogue re-arranged and re-configured for a 13-piece Cuban orchestra comprised of some of Havana‘s finest young players, collectively known as C.U.B.A. It’s Rodrigo y Gabriela’s first recorded collaboration with another group of musicians.

The band will be touring throughout 2012.

My Morning Jacket’s Title Track from New Album ‘Circuital’

Nearly three years since their last release, My Morning Jacket are now on the cusp of releasing the eagerly awaited new album, Circuital (ATO Records, May 31st). The band has been gearing it all up by releasing songs from each of their five Terminal 5 shows this past October. Today, My Morning Jacket are giving us a taste of the new album by sharing the title track and revealing it’s enigmatic cover art.

Right now fans can head to My Morning Jacket’s website to buy pre-orders of the album, and a beautiful limited edition deluxe package that includes an exclusive 30 minute documentary dvd, high quality lithograph portrait taken by Danny Clinch and many other goodies. Ten deluxe versions will come with a ‘Golden Ticket” entitling the bearer to receive an original signed print by the band and Clinch.

Like the album as a whole, “Circuital” was laid down almost entirely live as the honest spirit and human spontaneity are felt throughout the listening experience. The song Circuital, while a seven minute epic, is but a taste of what to expect – the collection of songs is truly eclectic and entrancing from beginning to end.
