The Man and the Music with Murray #Rocktober

Happy 1st of October!

This is one of my most favorite times of year. It really is, I love the Fall and I love Halloween. Two of my kids were born in October (making May my other favorite time of year for my Finn) and of course my brother’s birthday is also in October. It’s a good month!

billmurrayAdding to the fun this October is the start of ROCK THE KASBAH’s #ROCKTOBER by getting to know legendary rock manager Richie Lanz (Bill Murray) in this brand new behind-the-scenes look – “The Man and the Music.” Hear what some of your favorite rock musicians had to say about Richie, his legacy, and his famous antics throughout the years.

A has-been rock manager from Van Nuys, California stumbles upon a once-in-a-lifetime voice in a remote Afghan cave in Rock the Kasbah, a dramatic comedy inspired by stranger-than-fiction, real-life events and directed by Oscar winner Barry Levinson. Richie Lanz (Bill Murray), dumped and stranded in war-torn Kabul by his last remaining client (Zooey Deschanel), discovers Salima Khan (Leem Lubany), a Pashtun teenager with a beautiful voice and the courageous dream of becoming the first woman to compete on national television in Afghanistan’s  version of “American Idol.”  Richie partners with a savvy hooker (Kate Hudson), a pair of hard-partying war profiteers (Danny McBride and Scott Caan) and a hair-trigger mercenary (Bruce Willis) and, braving dangerous cultural prejudices, manages his new protégée into becoming the “Afghan Star.”

Will Ghostbusters 3 flop without Bill Murray?

Who you gonna call? Not Peter Venkman.

Bill Murray officially will not appear in Ghostbusters 3.

So says Dan Aykroyd, who tells Metro that while they have a “brilliant” new writer for the sequel, Murray will not be involved. “It’s sad, but we’re passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved, but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one,” Aykroyd says.

Dan Aykroyd is great and I’m super happy he is behind Ghostbusters 3, but for me and for those of my generation it just won’t be the same without Bill Murray. I would say the same thing if Murray were starring and Aykroyd was not. The team has to be complete or it’s just not going to work.

I hear this movie is for a new generation and all but I’m sad folks will be missing out on something fantastic.

And so Bill Murray, you have made me sad with your final decision. It’s not like you have been in super stellar flicks as of late and I very much believe this would have gotten you some great publicity, but now you will miss out. Boo to you!

Moonrise Kingdom not your average blue lagoon

On behalf of Focus Features, we’re excited to announce AOL Moviefone has just launched the first of four exclusive behind-the-scenes featurettes premiering throughout the web this week from MOONRISE KINGDOM!

Make sure to swing by AOL Moviefone today and all of our partners throughout the week for exclusive behind-the-scenes looks featuring Bruce Willis, Wes Anderson, Edward Norton & Bill Murray.

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, MOONRISE KINGDOM tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore — and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton (she happens to terrify me), Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl.

Psyched about Ghostbusters 3

I don’t know about you, but I am very excited about Ghostbusters 3. I mean there are some movies I cannot even imagine being remade, especially moves from the 80s because I fear they would end up becoming too CGI or too special effect ridden.

For anyone born during the perfect time to love the classic 80s movies, you would understand part of their awesomeness was the fact that they did not rely on explosions and graphics to be awesome. The Goonies, Ghostbusters, Lost Boys.. all of those movies remain fantastic movies because their effects were cheesy! I mean they had great stories, great actors and plot twists…they didn’t need the extra Hollywood crap.

So Ghostbusters 3 could become a tragic mistake BUT I don’t think this will happen. And why am I confident???

Because Dan Aykroyd is writing it, he has taken the reigns. And as long as he is involved with the script I have faith it will be a good movie. I know Bill Murray knocked it said a 3rd movie was a bad idea and all that jazz. But I think he will come around now, too since Aykroyd is move heavily involved in the creative process.

Aykroyd noted, “I think he [Murray] was concerned that the writing on Ghostbusters 3 by these guys would not be up to standard, but I can tell you firsthand, I’m working on the script now and those two-Stupnitsky and Eisenberg, [writer-producers of The Office]-wrote Bill the comic role of a lifetime, and the new Ghostbusters and the old are all well represented in it…we have a strong first draft that Harold [Ramis] and I will take back, and I’m very excited about working on it.”

Aykroyd then followed that up by talking a bit about where his character is at all these years later, as well as why they’re even attempting another sequel decades after the previous installment hit theaters. “Look, Hollywood is in love with any kind of nostalgia that can prove itself to be commercial,” he said. “But it has to evolve. Now [in Ghostbusters 3] my character’s eyesight is shot, I got a bad knee, a bad hip-I can’t drive that caddy anymore or lift that Psychotron Accelerator anymore, it’s too heavy. We need young legs, new minds-new Ghostbusters; so I’m in essence passing the torch to the new regime, and you know what? That’s totally okay with me.”

It has been reported by Dan Aykroyd in the Times that Sigourney Weaver has agreed to reprise her role as Dana Barrett, and she recently told MTV News that she is waiting to read the script.
