You can’t give up the things you love to make it better

Cut Copy is at it again with a new track called “Standing in the Middle of the Field.”

What started out as a group of people recording music in their bedroom is now a band that promises to out do themselves with each new album.

As we all know, I’m a lyrics person, Cut Copy has progressively gotten better on the lyric front, but their music is something that moves me musically rather than lyrically.

Without further adieu, taken from their forthcoming album “Haiku From Zero” set to release on September 22, they oh so super catchy “Standing in the Middle of the Field.”

Cut Copy photos freak me out, but their music is sweet

Cut Copy Nominated for Grammy

Melbourne-based electronic band Cut Copy last night received a Grammy nomination in the category of Best Dance/Electronica Release for 2011’s long player Zonoscope. This is their first Grammy nomination, and came as an utter surprise to the boys, with Cut Copy frontman Dan Whitford tweeting his reaction: “Just received news of Grammy nomination while scanning groceries at the supermarket…little hard to concentrate. Can I finish this later?”

It’s been a big week for Zonoscope – this past Sunday the album won Best Dance Release at the ARIA Awards, Australia’s annual recording industry awards. Cut Copy performed their single ‘Need You Now’ with a 50 person choir at the televised ceremony, and you can watch it here.

The 54th Annual Grammy Awards will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 12th, 2012, and will be broadcast live on CBS.

Cut Copy are Dan Whitford, Tim Hoey, Ben Browning, and Mitchell Scott.

Third album from Cut /// Copy

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome back Cut Copy.

“The musical lovechild of Melbournite Dan Whitford, Cut Copy was originally a solo project for Whitford to exercise his love of sampling and instrumental hip-hop.” – Modular

Band members: Dan Whitford / Tim Hoey / Mitchell Scott / Ben Browning

Ever the gracious houseguests, they’re returning armed with their third and most ambitious work yet, Zonoscope. Zonoscope is Cut Copy boiled down to their purest form, a suite of futuristic visions built upon primal rhythm tracks. It is their most immediate work to date but also their most sonically exquisite.

Album track “Take Me Over” perfectly encapsulates this, its chiming highlife guitars bouncing around tropical percussion reminiscent of an island holiday in a pop song. Zonoscope was dreamt in the comedown of In Ghost Colours, the album which cemented Cut Copy as a global sensation. Their perpetual touring cycle saw the band headline a stage at Lollapalooza, become the first Australian act to play Colombia since INXS, have fire marshals shut down an LA performance mid-set as crowds began to buckle the seams of the Henry Fonda Theatre, and be raced to the Pitchfork Festival via police escort following a cancelled flight.

After more than two years of exhilarating chaos, frontman Dan Whitford bunkered down at home to flesh out rough synth and vocal skeletons, before heading into the studio with the band to bring these textured grooves to life. Whitford describes the wonderland which he set out to create with Tim Hoey, Mitchell Scott and Ben Browning, “All the way along we had this weird vision of a tropical, jungle, tribal sound. A place or an idea that we wanted to reach with some of the songwriting; to explore a looping hypnotic trance and revise the whole palette of what Cut Copy was about.”

Recorded over a six month period in a warehouse space the band rented in Melbourne, and mixed in Atlanta by Ben H. Allen (Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley, Deerhunter), Zonoscope paints a mesmerizing picture, conjured by a band at the height of their powers.

Zonoscope will be released on February 4 in Australia, February 7 in the UK and Europe, and February 8 in North America.
