It has been awhile, I feel, since I have written a post about music which is the whole reason I started this blog seven years ago.
However this morning I’m feeling especially moody and therefore am blaring music in my office until my office-mate gets in later today. And as we’re only 11 days away from my favorite “holiday” Halloween I’m going to do my annual post of some great Halloween songs. Thankfully the kids helped me with this during our morning commute so I have extra ones I would not have remembered or thought of on my own.
Don’t ask me why a banking center is letting people know where to buy the top 10 popular Halloween costumes for this year, but they spent time on this and so I should share it, right? The predictions are stating that people will be spending more on costumes this year. My family spends a decent amount each year anyway because we love Halloween. My kids start talking about their costumes for the following year on November 1st while sorting through their candy from the night before.
GOBankingRates investigated which popular online retailers are offering the best deals on this year’s hottest costumes, from Frozen’s Elsa to Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow.
Halloween 2014 will be even more widely celebrated in the U.S. than usual, with the National Retail Federation predicting costume sales this year will hit $2.8 billion, a 55 percent increase in spending since 2006. My guess is this is due to Halloween being on a Friday night this year. That means more families out and about because there is no school the next day. Plus the young adults of our generation will be having more parties because it’s a weekend event this year.

So what will you or your kids be wearing? My oldest wants to be Steve from Minecraft which is pretty easy for me. Then Finn wants to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. I’m hoping to get our little girl into a mermaid costume but not necessarily Ariel. I might venture to Etsy for something. We shall see.
What if your most favorite part about Halloween? Do you have decorations you love to put out every year? Do you enjoy figuring out what costume you will wear?
Halloween has always been my most favorite holiday, but for some reason I’m just not feeling the desire to get into the spooky spirit.
I’m hoping you guys will help me get into the spook-tac-ular spirit!

Do you download new Halloween apps around this time of year? If you don’t mind spending money on apps I really like the “Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” app because it tells the story, it’s pretty fantastic. My Finn, age 4, also loves the monster dress up apps. Of course we have spooky music to play as well and Finn’s favorite isn’t even music it’s a Mickey Mouse Spooky Story that is told by his favorite Disney characters. He listens to that one all year round.
Have you and your family carved pumpkins yet? My family normally does this, our kids will carve one and my husband and I will carve one. We’ll light them and put them outside for a family photo op. we haven’t done one this year, but there is still time.

Halloween is almost here, and with that came the season premiere of The Walking Dead! For the premiere, the cast took a trip to Halloween Horror Nights and experienced the maze for themselves. Stars Steven Yeun, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Norman Reedus certainly had quite the scare.
Check out the super creepy, awesome video above the title of this post!
Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights 2013 “Design a Character” Contest. Universal is giving everyone a chance to design and re-invent their own Universal Classic Monster and have it brought to life this year at HHN! Enter a detailed drawing or written description of your character design based one of the iconic monsters on their list (including Dracula, Werewolf, Mummy, etc.). The winner and a guest will be invited to attend their design unveiling at the red carpet opening night in Hollywood.
Knowing the amazing work that goes into monster design from previous Halloween Horror Nights, I can without doubt say that I would not at all be able to enter this content. As much as I love the idea of being crafty and creative, I’m really not. I’m a programmer. Give me lines of code and I’ll animate a monster online for you ;)
For those of you out there who ARE into Horror Nights and designing then get busy!
The Hershey’s website typically does some cool things around the holidays. Normally I end up getting releases about them, but this year I didn’t. However, that did not stop me from looking.
This year Hershey’s has a page online called “Hershey’s Boo Blvd.” and it’s adorable. There are cute ghosty animations flying back and forth on the screen and links to recipes, crafts, videos, a blog, etc.
So if you are looking for more Halloween decoration ideas like making your front door look like a giant Frankenstein or recipes like Halloween Cookies on a Stick then definitely check out the creations and tips available at Hershey’s Boo Blvd. They also have cute computer desktop wallpapers and coloring pages you can print out for the kiddos to color. Oooo and if you are like my family and you need to carve more pumpkins because the ones you just carved are already rotten…well then be sure to check for the stencils on Boo Blvd. I especially like the owl one, but it’s advanced and I’m not sure I have that kind of skill :)
On a side note, a blog I read frequently is hosting a giveaway for Hershey’s Halloween treats, check it out Leslie Loves Veggies >>
