We used a “Mojito Revolution Kit” from UnCommon Goods to perform our investigation. And I’ve got to tell you, if you haven’t already gotten a gift for your boyfriend or girlfriend for Valentine’s Day something like this would be perfect. (Click here to check this kit out and more) You could end up mixing drinks together, popping some popcorn and settling in for a home movie night.
So of course the most fun part for the boys was using the mortar and pestle. They crushed up mint leaves, some lime, some sugar and courtesy of the kit some Calcium Lactate. The recipe came from the booklet and walked us through the steps. We ended up with quite a green mixture of bitter, mint syrup once my kids were done grinding everything up.
Using a slotted spoon to pour from one glass to another glass, much like a mad scientist might, we ended up with less mint pieces and a smoother liquid. Still very green. So I knew next time I would be making the concoctions solo and not with the kiddos.
My oldest decided the lime mixture wasn’t so bad, comparable to lemonade. He didn’t seem to think the mint was overbearing. And I have to agree. When I added the rum to my glass it ended up being a tasty drink, albeit, green. And that was because the mint leaves ended up completely mulled by the boys.
Meanwhile I was thinking about how my brother would love something like this, he’s always trying out new ways to make cocktails and infused liquors.
Again definitely thinking about gifting a kit like this in the future, for 21+ friends of course. You can find it and more gifts at the following links:
Now. To make this an extra fun Valentine post…we’re hosting a giveaway. After all I need to share some love with my scrink.com readers. There is no better way to show you I care then to offer a $25 gift card to use at UnCommon Goods.
