You know if Johnny Depp is in the movie I will watch it. Because. He’s Johnny Depp.
So, I saw Mortdecai come through my inbox and I thought, what the heck is that!? Then I opened it and read through to see it’s a new comedy movie coming from Lionsgate.
The premise is that Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) is faced with a mysteriously missing piece of art, he’s forced to set out on an international adventure to uncover the stolen item that may hold the code to unlimited wealth. Will his outstanding charm and good looks be enough to complete this mission?
The film stars Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, with Jeff Goldblum, and Paul Bettany.
A film adaptation of a stupendously successful book always makes me a little apprehensive. When the source material is as astounding as Suzanne Collins‘ The Hunger Games is, adapting it to film comes with immense pressure to live up to all expectations. Watching both theatrical trailers and the sneak peak on the official The Hunger Games movie site has calmed my anxiety somewhat, though. I won’t fully know until I witness the entire movie if it lives up to the fame the novel has created but I think people are going to like what they see in three weeks and you’ll be hearing of the blockbuster take from the box office the following Monday.
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
You may not know some of the names of the starring cast such as Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth (you might though) but rest assured after this movie opens you’ll know them all. Woody Harrelson and Lenny Kravitz (yes, Lenny Kravitz) also star in the film. I’ll also say this film features a heavyweight in the motion picture world in the form of Donald Sutherland. If he’s involved, you know something good is coming!
Just in time for Comic Con, Lionsgate is pleased to announce that THE CABIN IN THE WOODS will be released on Friday April 13th, 2012.
Thor’s Chris Hemsworth stars as a young professional who visits a quaint cabin in the woods with agroup of friends and ends up scratching the surface of something so massive and horrific that they can only begin to fathom it as time quickly runs out.
Co-written by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, the upcoming Marvel film The Avengers), also produced the film, which he has described as “the horror movie to end all horror movies.” The film is wildly imaginative and intensely horrific, toying with every convention of its genre while at the same time raising their stakes exponentially. Added Whedon, “I’m thrilled that Cabin has landed at Lionsgate because they get and love the film and I’m excited to be working with them on the release.”
The film also stars Richard Jenkins (Let Me In), Bradley Whitford (The West Wing), Kristen Connolly (The Happening), Brian J. White (Stomp the Yard), Amy Acker (Angel), Fran Kranz (Donnie Darko), and Jesse Williams (Brooklyn’s Finest).
Yes, I know he is younger than me and no I’m not a cougar.
Taylor Lautner plays the starring role in an upcoming drama/action movie titled “Abuduction” which hits theaters on September 23, 2011.
In the movie Lautner’s character, Nathan, stumbles upon an image of himself as a little boy on a missing person’s website. As he realizes his parents are not his own and his life is a lie he begins to uncover a past which targets him and puts his life in fatal danger.
ABDUCTION stars Taylor Lautner, Lily Collins, Alfred Molina, Jason Isaacs, Maria Bello, Denzel Whitaker, Michael Nyqvist and Sigourney Weaver. The film is directed by John Singleton and written by Shawn Christensen. Lionsgate presents, a Gotham Group / Vertigo Entertainment / Quick Six Entertainment production, a Lionsgate Production, in association with Mango Farms.
“Many people would likely consider Mick an ambulance chaser, a guy who’s a bottom feeder,” admits actor Matthew McConaughey, who stars as Mick Haller. “He’s a guy who’s financially living from month to month, trying to support his ex-wife and his daughter, and defending people like prostitutes or someone busted on a drug charge, and a lot of smaller crimes.”
For McConaughey, the role of Mick Haller was a natural fit, partly because it recalled the actor’s early career ambitions. “When I was in college at the University of Texas, I was going to be a criminal defense lawyer,” he says. “For the film I tried to understand all the details of being a defense lawyer. I had a lot of questions for different lawyers about the technical aspects: what’s the reality of this situation, how would this go down? Where did I get this information? If my private investigator got bad information, how did he get it?”
Finding the right director to bring THE LINCOLN LAWYER to the screen turned out to be a long process, and it was ultimately McConaughey who suggested that the producers consider director Brad Furman for the job. Recalls McConaughey, “After I accepted the offer to play Mick Haller, we went on a director hunt. I had met Brad Furman for another project that I have at my production company and we clicked.”
Furman had previously directed the feature, THE TAKE, which McConaughey says, “Captures L.A. wonderfully.” The actor adds, “Brad really understands the street aspect of THE LINCOLN LAWYER. He understands how the justice system works, and the injustice inherent in it, too.”
Says Lucchesi. “We spent some time with Brad and then we called up Matthew and said, ‘We really like your guy.’ The next thing you know, we committed to Brad and started to make the film.”
(The above excerpts were from the fascinating production notes for “The Lincoln Lawyer” which make the film sound all the more enticing.)
In the gripping thriller “The Lincoln Lawyer,” Matthew McConaughey stars as Michael “Mick” Haller, a slick, charismatic Los Angeles criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back of his Lincoln Continental sedan. Having spent most of his career defending petty, gutter-variety criminals, Mick unexpectedly lands the case of a lifetime: defending a rich Beverly Hills playboy (Ryan Phillippe) who is accused of attempted murder. However, what initially appears to be a straightforward case with a big money pay-off swiftly develops into a deadly match between two masters of manipulation and a crisis of conscience for Haller.
Directed by Brad Furman from a screenplay by John Romano, based on the novel by Michael Connelly, the cast also includes Marisa Tomei, Josh Lucas, John Leguizamo, Frances Fisher, Bob Gunton, Laurence Mason, with Bryan Cranston and William H. Macy. Lionsgate and Lakeshore Entertainment present a Lakeshore Entertainment Lionsgate production in association with Sidney Kimmel Entertainment Stone Village Pictures.
On behalf of 20th Century Fox we are excited to announce that on February 10, today, Facebook’s worldwide community of X-Men fans will come together for an exclusive first look at the trailer for the highly anticipated film X-MEN: FIRST CLASS!
As the number of fans who share the trailer grows, a specially designed X-App will subsequently unlock special content. The X-App gives users the power to evolve their Facebook experience and customize their profile pictures.
SYNOPSIS: X-MEN: FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.
The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones, Oliver Platt, and Kevin Bacon. Matthew Vaughn (“Kick-Ass”) directs, and the producers are Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer. Singer, who helmed the acclaimed blockbusters “X-Men” and “X2,” wrote the story for X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.
Why can’t I insert a drum roll when people come to this post? Haha, yeah it would probably drive everyone nuts except for me.
Imagine some sort of fanatical entrance track though, ok?
