“This band is like a pot of synth gold at the end of the pop rainbow.”…Neon Gold
Signed directly to Sony RCA in the UK, the duo of 21-year-old Xavier Bacash and 24-year-old Lionel Towers only began making music together a year ago in a garage in Melbourne. After writing, performing and producing their debut album themselves, Gypsy & The Cat enlisted David Fridmann (MGMT, Flaming Lips) and Rich Costey (Muse) for final mixing duties.
After producing and recording their album in their Melbourne home studio, Gypsy & the Cat moved to London and mixed their debut album with David Fridmann (of Mercury Rev fame and producer of MGMT, Flaming Lips, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to name a few) and Rich Costey (Producer of amongst others, Muse, Mew, Franz Ferdinand, Glasvegas).
Gotta tell you, I’m not sure what Neon Gold was trying to say with their previous quote, but I liked it. I could listen to “The Piper’s Song” all day long and not get tired of it. It’s just one of those songs that cheers me up and gets me smiling. Which then makes my coworkers look at me funny as I have one earbud in and am typing away with a big grin on my face at the computer. Yeah, look on office mate, I found the Gypsy to my Cat and you wouldn’t understand.
