Ryan Reynolds’ will reprise his role as X-Men mutant Deadpool after landing his own spin-off in the comic book film franchise.

Reynolds starred alongside Hugh Jackman in the fourth movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine; and studio bosses at Twentieth Century Fox have already begun development on a film to flesh out his character’s story, reports Variety.

The actor will take over the big screen as Deadpool and alter-ego Wade Wilson, a cancer-stricken mercenary who becomes an indestructible mutant thanks to a genetic experiment. Just last week Wolverine director Gavin Hood sparked reports Reynolds is set to star in his own X-Men movie, revealing he hopes to chronicle Deadpool’s superhero background.
