Looper have created a video for the track “I’m a Photograph” from their new album Offgrid:Offline, using vintage band photos alongside fan photographs submitted for a recent contest with creative camera company Lomography. Contestants were asked to send in their 10 best summer shots for the chance to be included in a forthcoming video. The winners were announced last week.  Watch and share the winning entries set perfectly to the Looper track HERE.

Looper’s new album was recorded at their remote home in the countryside, a new set of songs and stories – inspired by the return to peace and quiet, and influenced by indie-folk music. Conscious of the very different styles of previous albums, Looper set out to bring together elements of each into this new work. Structured like the first album, around a recurring melody, Offgrid:Offline is thematically centred on the spoken word piece which gives the album its title, drawing together the musical motifs and lyrical themes from throughout.

Looper emerged from Belle & Sebastian in 1997, when Stuart David (co-founder and bass player of B&S) and his wife Karn (an artist who directed the early B&S videos) collaborated for a show at Glasgow School of Art. A degree show fundraiser for Stuart’s sister Karla Black – who received a Turner Prize nomination in 2011- the performance was a multi-media affair incorporating TVs, super 8 film, 35mm slides and kinetic sculptures. Since nothing broke down and everyone clapped, they decided to keep doing it.

Looper also released a 5 CD retrospective box set, These Things, earlier this year. The box set collates tracks from their entire catalogue. In an inventive reinterpretation of ‘The Boxset,’ Looper have curated the database of their entire body of work as five separate CDs, themed by type and entitled lexiphonics, kinokraft, voxtrot, transmitte and melos.

Merry Christmas My Friend new track by Maps

mapsJust in time for the holidays Maps is debuting a new song for all your festive celebrations. Or not so festive because it’s a very downbeat song if you ask me, but that would be perfect for those of you emo downer folk who like such things. At least he didn’t get all PC and say Happy Holidays. I know everyone is going to freak out about that but come on guys if you say Happy Hannakuh to me I’m not going to pitch a fit. People shouldn’t have to walk around on egg shells, they should be allowed to always wish you a merry holiday whether it’s Christmas or Kwanzaa!

Check out “Merry Christmas My Friend” via Maps’.

With Chapman as the sole creative force behind the music, every Maps album is defined entirely by where his head was at during the recording process. His sophomore release, Turning The Mind churns like a hedonistic after party, picking up where Maps critically acclaimed and Mercury Prize Nominated debut, We Can Create left off. Vicissitude is Maps latest triumph—showcasing Chapman’s spoils from his continuous battle to dig deep, confront reality and conquer new musical territory.

As with previous releases, Vicissitude was primarily recorded at Maps’ home in Northampton and was mixed by Ken Thomas (Sugarcubes, M83, Sigur Ros) and Jolyon Thomas.

Soulsavers – Take Me Back Home Video

Soulsavers are pleased to debut the video for “Take Me Back Home” on AOL Spinner’s Video of the Day. “Take Me Back Home” is off their latest release, The Light the Dead See, a collaboration with Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan.

The record, out now via Mute, is the follow-up to 2009’s critically acclaimed album Broken.

Venturing out from the studio to the road, Soulsavers were invited to support Depeche Mode on the European leg of the band’s vast 2010 Tour of the Universe. Here, the seeds of The Light The Dead See were sewn. With Gahan penning lyrics for the music and recording his own vocals in New York, then Machin building up the results into fully-formed and arranged epics, the international project was a case of “chemistry working”.

The album was mastered at Abbey Road earlier this year.

M83’s track ‘Midnight City’ has gone GOLD!

We at scrink.com have been huge fans of M83 for many years and so it is with great happiness that we share this announcement from Mute Records.

Mute is proud to congratulate M83 on their first FIRST RIAA-CERTIFED GOLD SINGLE for “Midnight City” off of their sixth studio release, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. Currently, M83 are enjoying their summer with a tour throughout Europe but they will be back in the states starting on August 1st with a show at Philadelphia’s Electric Factory.

For a complete list of tour dates visit ilovem83.com.

Produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, NIN, The Mars Volta, Goldfrapp), mixed by Tony Hoffer (Air, The Kooks), and including contributions from Brad Laner (from 90’s band Medicine), Saturdays=Youth vocalist Morgan Kibby, and guest vocalist Zola Jesus, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming is a double-album journey that takes us to the horizon and introduces us to new landscapes. About awakening, craving, and conquering, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming pushes into new vocal territory for M83. Here we see Gonzalez test out different ways of singing, ranging from a spectral breathy whisper to a howling scream.

“I think it is a reflection of my 30 years of being a human being. It’s a compilation of all my previous music together. It’s a retrospective of myself”, says Gonzalez.
