Kellogg’s cash in on new Spider-Man 2 with game app

spider-man2Celebrating the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie, Kellogg Company is releasing a new Web-Slinging game App that provides superhero fans with an exclusive, interactive gaming experience and a way to become Spider-Man, themselves! If that’s not enough, consumers can enter a giveaway and a new Kellogg sweepstakes with Sony for a chance to win more than 1,000 prizes, including a free trip for two to New York City.

“Spider-Man fans are gearing up for the film and we’re casting a web of fun that everyone can enjoy,” says Melissa Pawlowicz, senior director of Integrated Promotions at Kellogg Company.

After downloading Kellogg’s Spider-Man 2 game App, players can unlock game scenes on their phone by snapping a picture of the phone icon on specially marked Kellogg’s packages.  Each Kellogg’s brand unlocks one of three different gaming scenes. Kellogg’s snack products, for example, show a battle between Spider-Man and the villain Electro in Times Square. Cereals and Pop-Tarts® will unlock a cityscape scene, and Pringles® products reveal a battle at Oscorp Industries. Once all three scenes have been unlocked, a Spider-Man photo overlay will appear and consumers can take photos in the Spider-Man suit.

In addition to the new game app, consumers can earn prizes when collecting Kellogg’s Family Rewards (KFR) codes from specially marked packages of Pop-Tarts® and Kellogg’s cereals such as Krave®, Frosted Mini-Wheats®, Frosted Flakes®, Apple Jacks® and Froot Loops®. Consumers can redeem three codes for concession cash or six codes for free movie tickets valued at $12 each. Plus, each time consumers enter a code, they will earn points toward other KFR rewards.

The accompanying sweepstakes offers superhero fans more than 1,000 prizes, including a grand prize trip for two to New York City. To enter, consumers can collect and redeem KFR codes from an array of specially marked Kellogg’s snack products, including Cheez-It®, Keebler® and Rice Krispies Treats®. Throwing around terms … Hip street folk, Irish immigrants and Mission hipsters

andrewstjames_5“Vision-like recollections are the core of my perception,” Andrew St. James says of the inspiration for “Visions,” the latest track from his debut album Doldrums, out now. “I wrote it at a party in the Mission late last year. I have a funny little recording of it on my phone from that night. You can hear the party wailing in the background and a terribly out of tune piano. I freestyled the lyrics, but most of them ended up on the album anyway.”

For “Visions” video, St. James and producer Jim Greer “decided to roll to downtown Oakland for some quality fooling around,” according to the singer. “We brought along a Wurlitzer for some photos and set it down at a picnic table in the park.” Fooling around turned into filming and the snippets of the lighthearted day became the basis for the piece.

Incorporating a beyond-his-years lyrical vision with a unique gift for melody-making on Doldrums, 18-year-old St. James is emerging from the fog-enshrouded misty hills of San Francisco’s Twin Peaks. His music lands firmly in the alternative folk world, but displays a real knack for timeless songwriting skills.

Produced by St. James himself along with veteran Bay Area producer Jim Greer (a platinum record recipient for his work with Foster The People), Doldrums is out now via the Island Jar/Fortune label. To date, Doldrums has received notice from USA Today, Interview Magazine, San Francisco Weekly, MTV Hive, Performer Magazine and Nylon Guys, among many others. St. James will makie his NYC club debut at Rockwood Music Hall on Fri., Nov. 22nd with an after-work set at 7:00PM sharp. Doldrums is currently streaming in full via American Songwriter.

Hauntingly beautiful, lyrics, voice, strings the whole Laura Stevenson shebang

Laura Stevenson has announced fall tour dates in support of her critically acclaimed album Wheel, honored by The Onion A/V Club as part of the “most notable music of 2013 (so far).” In addition to headline shows, Stevenson will join Cursive’s Tim Kasher on the road for a majority of the September through November run. The two are already well acquainted on account of Kasher, an admirer of her work, inviting Stevenson to sing guest vocals for a track on his new album. Upcoming tour dates below. The Philly date is November 9th at Johnny Brenda’s for my local peeps. I would LOVE to get to this show!

Wheel features strings by Grammy award winning violinist Rob Moose (Bon Iver, Antony And The Johnsons), brass accompaniment from Kelly Pratt (Beirut, Arcade Fire, David Byrne and St. Vincent), and was produced and mixed by Kevin McMahon (Swans, Titus Andronicus, Frightened Rabbit, Real Estate).

Stevenson was born and raised on Long Island into a family of mariners and music makers. She spent many of her younger days on the sugar barges of NY harbor with her father and uncles, who all made their living on the water, at one time running one of the largest fleets on the Hudson. Meanwhile, her mother’s parents were successful musicians; Harry Simeone, the composer and choral arranger responsible for such works as “The Little Drummer Boy” and “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and Margaret McCravy (stage name McCrae), a singer from South Carolina who got her start accompanying her elder siblings “The McCravy Brothers,” a harmonious gospel folk duo, before continuing on her own to record and tour with bandleader Benny Goodman. Armed with her grandfather’s love for modernist dissonance, a genetic predisposition for harmony, and with her sea legs firmly planted in the traditions of American folk singing, Stevenson began creating melodies at a very young age.

Bleeding ears of the world unite

hanizahraWhen I was younger I rode a roller coaster at a big amusement park on the day it officially opened. Apparently they never tested it with people of my height, because while I was allowed on the ride it ended up being horrible! My head was in between the guard pads which were probably meant to be along side my neck or shoulders. And my head hit back and forth on the pads with such force that my ears started to bleed where my stud earrings were. Yeah, there’s a reason I’m talking about bleeding ears.

I think I often equate music to scene in life… or up to video games from the early 80s if the music is far too synth for its own good. I appreciate artists doing their thing without fear and just putting it all out there. But every now and then I get sent music that is just so terrible. Sadly that has happened today in the way of Hani Zahra.

HANI ZAHRA is a five-‐piece band from Brooklyn, NY. Founded in 2012 behind front man Hani Zahra (Vocals), this dynamic group of musicians consists of Jared Dymbort (Lead Guitar), Angelica Olstad (Keyboards/Synth), Adrian Morgan (Bass), and Ilya Kuperman (Drums). Their sound has been categorized as indie psychedelic pop and is unique in their use of keyboards, synthesizers and traditional vocal harmonies.

The track I was sent is above the post title. Check it out and let me know if you love it… or hate it.

Wish You Were Here, don’t be fooled it’s not a sentimental one

Anyone up for a summer psychological thriller? I don’t know about you guys but this one, Wish You Were Here, sounds intense.

In a statement from director Kieran Darcy-Smith, “For years I have been fascinated by the idea of unexplained disappearance. The extraordinary vacuum opened up for those left behind. The unknown. The possibilities. What if I were to fake my own death? Or I’m held prisoner in a basement for thirty years? Perhaps simply snuffed to dust in an instant by some catastrophe, natural or otherwise. And the world at home carries on… I’m a grainy photograph… What have I left behind me?”

Kieran Darcy-Smith’s feature debut is a calmly devastating exploration of how one misjudged moment in life has the potential to cause everything to fall to pieces. Dave (Joel Edgerton) reluctantly travels to Cambodia with his pregnant wife (co-writer Felicity Price) and her younger sister and new boyfriend, and after a night of partying the boyfriend disappears without a trace. The others are left to return to their lives, each bearing differing degrees of knowledge about what happened. Delivering doses of information bit by bit, the film’s meticulously edited, nonlinear disclosure of events is transfixing-as are the superb performances.

Four friends indulge in a carefree Cambodian holiday, but their sun-soaked retreat quickly takes a horrific turn when one of the travelers disappears. As the search ensues, the others return home, racked with guilt and struggling to return to their daily lives. Does one of them hold the answer to the fate of their lost companion? Tightly-held secrets from their life-altering trip are brought to light, revealing clues to the whereabouts of their missing friend.
