Comedy from DreamWorks ‘The Croods’ in theaters today 3/22

thecroodsThe Croods stars Nicolas Cage as Grug, Ryan Reynolds as Guy, Emma Stone as Eep, Catherine Keener as Ugga, Clark Duke as Thunk, and Cloris Leachman as Gran.

That’s quite a cast for a DreamWorks about the Croodaceous Period, which, says DeMicco, “fell between the Jurassic Age and the ‘Katzenzoic Era’. It is a world of visual splendor and grandeur that holds innumerable challenges for the beleaguered clan. And what happens…an earthquake and so they have to find a new home. How can that be funny? I’m not sure but if anyone can do it then it would be DreamWorks.

What’s going on with the characters aside for journeying to find a new home? Croods father-type Grug (voiced by Nicolas Cage) has to come to terms with daughter Eep (Emma Stone) growing older and falling in love with the more evolved Guy (Ryan Reynolds), who poses the threat of change for stubborn Grug. Ah so I see, the bigger drama here will be battle of the minds between Dad and Daughter, now I know how it’s a comedy :)

Mitch and Dave want their bodies back

Ryan Reynolds and Justin Bateman. Come on, those two Hollywood names alone should be enough reason to get all the guys and gals out to a movie theater. For one they are both hilarious actors and secondly, they are also both pretty hot!

Knowing that both guys are starring in Universal Studios upcoming summer comedy “The Change-Up” just makes me want to break out the buttered popcorn right now. The movie is directed by none other than David Dobkin who also directed Wedding Crashers. It’s written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore who also wrote The Hangover. So you know this movie is going to play out well and have some ridiculously funny dialog, right? Absolutely!

Movie plot:

When a family man (Dave played by Jason Bateman) accidentally swaps bodies with his best friend (a single, slacker actor played by Ryan Reynolds), their windows into each other’s lives give them a new appreciation for their own. The two men struggle to avoid destroying each other’s lives before they can find a way to get their old ones back.

Movie Release Date: August 5, 2011

Casting: Ryan Reynolds (as Mitch), Olivia Wilde (as Sabrina), Jason Bateman (as Dave), Leslie Mann (as Jamie), Mircea Monroe (as Tatiana), Alan Arkin, Shannon Guess (as Becky), Jeanine Jackson (as Carla Nelson), Ned Schmidtke (as Ted Norton), Sydney Rouviere (as Cara)

I knew Berg would become Captain Excellent

Sorry, I don’t want it to be about their relationship or about her (HER Scarlet) but she’s just absurd, maybe it wasn’t even her fault that it didn’t work out with Ryan Reynolds but she should have done whatever it took to work things out because even when he is ridiculous he is just awesome. Yes, even when he was in Two Guys, A Girl and A Pizza Place.. he was awesome!

PAPER MAN is an inspirational comedic drama about an unlikely friendship between Richard (Jeff Daniels), a failed middle-aged novelist who has never quite grown up and Abby (Emma Stone), a 17-year-old girl whose role in a family tragedy years earlier has stolen away her youth. Both are unsure, both are afraid to take firm steps forward, and both are looking for that special friend-that connection-to help guide them into the future. Since his childhood, Richard has mostly relied on the imaginary one that resides in his head-a costumed superhero known as Captain Excellent (Ryan Reynolds).

At the urging of his wife Claire (Lisa Kudrow), Richard has moved to a Long Island beach community for the winter season in order to overcome his writer’s block. There, Richard meets Abby and hires her as a weekly babysitter, even though he has no children. Their tenuous, new friendship is sparked by Richard’s awe over Abby’s homemade soup and Abby’s enjoyment of Richard’s writing and his attempts at Origami. As the season progresses and the warm, quirky friendship between Richard and Abby grows, the two begin to share with each other their dreams and life hardships. With the coming of spring, Richard and Abby discover there comes a time to let go of the imaginary friends of the past and to embrace the future as a new beginning-just as one would embrace a new and unique friendship.

PAPER MAN – Arriving on Blu-ray & DVD on January 18, 2011!

Buried Alive… Tick tick tick tock

Your cell phone is dying… Your flashlight is fading… Your oxygen is running out… But you are not ready to die.

In honor of the upcoming thriller BURIED starring Ryan Reynolds, Lionsgate will conduct a mass burial at San Diego Comic Con 2010!

Starting this Wednesday, Comic Con attendees will get the chance to become part of a terrifying virtual interactive experience at the San Diego Convention Center.

Record video of your burial. Share the terror with your friends. Become part of a virtual online cemetery. Experience BURIED — only at Lionsgate Booth #3729.

What will you do when you’re buried alive?

The poster image attached here is super cool. It is inspired by one of the more famous Saul Bass posters for Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo.” The setup for “Buried” is equally Hitchcock-inspired: tight, unusual setting, key plot info revealed on a need-to-know basis, mounting suspense tied to a ticking clock (in this case, Reynolds’ character’s air supply).

What would you do if you were buried alive?

Scream. Fight. I would try to break free from wherever I was being held. Wow, that is such a crazy premise, don’t you think? I just asked my best friend Carrie what she would do, she said “What happens if you scream so loud and/or so long that you lose your voice and then you hear someone looking for you and you can’t call out?” It’s giving me chills just to think about it.

Paul Conroy is not ready to die.

But when he wakes up 6 feet underground with no idea of who put him there or why, life for the truck driver and family man instantly becomes a hellish struggle for survival. Buried with only a cell phone and a lighter, his contact with the outside world and ability to piece together clues that could help him discover his location are maddeningly limited. Poor reception, a rapidly draining battery, and a dwindling oxygen supply become his worst enemies in a tightly confined race against time- fighting panic, despair and delirium, Paul has only 90 minutes to be rescued before his worst nightmare comes true.

BURIED starring Ryan Reynolds in select theaters September 24th and nationwide October 8th!

X-Men Spinoff, More from Katie Holmes

Ryan Reynolds’ will reprise his role as X-Men mutant Deadpool after landing his own spin-off in the comic book film franchise.

Reynolds starred alongside Hugh Jackman in the fourth movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine; and studio bosses at Twentieth Century Fox have already begun development on a film to flesh out his character’s story, reports Variety.

The actor will take over the big screen as Deadpool and alter-ego Wade Wilson, a cancer-stricken mercenary who becomes an indestructible mutant thanks to a genetic experiment. Just last week Wolverine director Gavin Hood sparked reports Reynolds is set to star in his own X-Men movie, revealing he hopes to chronicle Deadpool’s superhero background.

Mishca Barton has reportedly rekindled her romance with former flame Luke Pritchard.

The pair — who split in March this year – were recently spotted partying together in London, fueling speculation they are dating again.

“Mischa made a beeline for Luke, and they soon started kissing, before then leaving the party to go back to Mischa’s hotel room.”

Jennifer Aniston is being linked to actor Bradley Cooper after the pair reportedly flirted up a storm at Tuesday’s party for her new movie, Management.

A new report describes how Bradley tried to enter the bash incognito by wearing a rubbish diguise of hat and glasses, before getting cosy with the actress once inside – much to his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Esposito’s disgust.

“Bradley and Jennifer [Aniston] were definitely into each other,” a partygoer tells New York Post’s Page Six.

Katie Holmes, last seen on Broadway running for her life from several white people in navy blazers, will star in Miramax’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Co-written by Guillermo Del Toro, Dark is based on a 1973 TV movie about “a young, Suri Cruise-type who moves in with her father and his girlfriend and discovers they are sharing the house with devilish creatures.”

Kate Moss has signed on to write her autobiography for Virgin Books-partially owned by hot shot Sir Richard Branson, who spilled the beans on the project.

Pattinson Popularity; Jamie Spears not to marry; Lance Armstrong and his 12 screws

Republican Whip Eric Cantor has skipped his party’s big annual fundraiser on Tuesday to attend Britney Spears’ concert in Washington DC.

As confirmed by GOP aides to the Huffington Post, the House Minority representative went to the show at the request of a fundraiser. Though he apparently didn’t enjoy the show, Cantor heroically stayed through the whole show for the conservative party.

An insider told the news trade, “If suffering through a Britney Spears concert will raise one more dime to help Republicans take back the House, then I’m glad Cantor’s willing to do it.”

WTF? I’m sure he “suffered” through her performance. Good grief.

It seems Robert Pattinson may have to step up his game against major Hollywood player Sean Penn, if he is to win over Natalie Portman.

The Milk star – who was also recently romantically linked to Lindsay Lohan – was supposedly seen locking lips with Natalie after a private dinner at the Sunset Tower Hotel’s Tower Bar on March 17.

“They went to a bank of elevators that only goes to the spa or to private room,” a source tells Star magazine.

“They came back about 45 minutes later, and that’s when I saw them making out.”

More on Pattinson…

Robert Pattinson has another famous fan – Scarlett Johansson’s husband Ryan Reynolds.

Reynolds – who stars alongside Twilight’s Kristen Stewart in the upcoming comedy flick Adventureland – says he’s a huge fan of the 22-year-old Brit.

He says, “I love Twilight.

“Oh my God are you kidding me? Robert Pattinson in a word – dreamy.”

Ryan also said that he wouldn’t mind doing a film with Pattinson in the future.

Interesting.

Jamie Lynn Spears is putting off plans to marry boyfriend Casey Aldridge so she can focus on being a “hands on Southern mother”, it’s claimed.

The youngest Spears reportedly planned to marry her baby-daddy following the birth of their daughter Maddie in July 2008 – but after a change of heart, the wedding is off, says a U.S. publication.

A source close to the Spears clan tells OK! magazine, “The wedding’s off. They are still in love, living together and very happy, but they have no plans to get married.”

Rumor has it that Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are having trouble with their new domestic lifestyle. An insider told Page Six, “Ashlee and Pete are on the rocks. He is going out all the time and she’s stuck at home. It’s just not working.”

A rep for Simpson, who’s currently spending some alone time with her hubby in Australia without baby Bronx Mowgli, said, “This is not true. Everything is fine in their world.”

The Gossip Girl spin-off, set to take off via a 20-minute flashback on the CW series’ May 11 episode, hasn’t even received an official pick-up, but executive producer Josh Schwartz already has a lot of ideas for it.

For instance, according to Schwartz, since the spin-off took place in the 80s when Serena’s (Blake Lively) mom Lily (Kelly Rutherford) was in high school, it’s very possible that she’ll meet and even hang out with several characters from The O.C.

“What we know is [‘OC’ characters] Kirsten Cohen, or Kirsten Nichols as she was born, and Jimmy Cooper lived in Newport Beach in the ’80s,” he said. “So there’s a total possibility that in one episode, Lily could have been friends with Kirsten or Jimmy Cooper when they were young. I would love to do that.”

Lance Armstrong collided with two other bike riders on Monday.

He is now recovering in Austin, Texas, after a five-inch stainless-steel plate and 12 screws were inserted in his collarbone, Armstrong, 37, will be up and at ’em in a week, his doctor says.

“Our goal was to stabilize his fracture as quickly as possible, but in a safe fashion, and then allow Lance to do the things he does best,” Dr. Douglas Elenz says.

As Armstrong’s collarbone mends, his doctor will “advance him off the exercise bike on to the street and take it day-by-day, week-by-week and month-by-month … We’re going to have to allow him to train and even potentially ride with a fracture that is not 100-percent healed.”
