Silversun Pickups announce new record Better Than Nature

Silversun Pickups have announced that their much-anticipated fourth studio album, BETTER NATURE, will be released September 25th via the band’s own New Machine Recordings. Pre-orders for the album in addition to other very limited items are now available at silversunpickups.com.

silversinpickupsBETTER NATURE is preceded by the incandescent new single, “Nightlight,” debuting August 6th.  “Nightlight” will also arrive via an inspired video directed by renowned filmmaker Mark Pellington which will premiere simultaneously with the song.

Silversun Pickups’ first new album in more than three years, BETTER NATURE sees the Silverlake, CA-based band partnering once again with producer Jacknife Lee (U2, Two Door Cinema Club, Crystal Castles), with whom they so successfully collaborated on 2012’s visionary NECK OF THE WOODS. The songs were created and crafted in Lee’s Topanga studio, the band spontaneously building out from singer/guitarist Brian Aubert’s deliberately spare songwriting demos (see tracklisting below). The result is fluid and freewheeling, “oozing,” in Aubert’s words, with heavily cranked guitars, propulsive rhythms, and seemingly infinite textures. GRAMMY® Award-winning mix engineer Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails, Royal Blood) brings maximum sonic power to the proceedings, but at the album’s beating heart is Silversun Pickups’ remarkably intuitive interplay, as ever providing panoramic musical counterpoint to Aubert’s incisive, increasingly self-exploratory lyricism. Richer, warmer, and more evocative than anything in their prior canon, BETTER NATURE is Silversun Pickups’ most human music thus far.

Silversun Pickups will herald BETTER NATURE with a full North American tour to be unveiled soon. In the meantime, the band will make a number of special appearances, beginning with a headline performance at FM 94.9’s Independence Jam, set for September 12th at Oceanside, CA’s Junior Seau Pier Amphitheatre.

Silversun Pickups – Bloody Mary

Silversun Pickups

Starting out like a slow smoldering fire yet to ignite Bloody Mary, the first single from Silversun Pickups new album Neck of the Woods, eases your ear into the overall feel and sound of their latest endeavor.  Lead singer/guitarist Brian Aubert said in a recent interview with Spin magazine that the songs on their upcoming release sound “like a horror movie” and that, on this album, he wanted to explore what built him and made him the way he is.  The track rolls along delivering its creeped out freaky lyrics until you hit the 2:31 mark when you get a heightened mix of bass and guitar with a steadier back beat that combines with haunting vocals that ignite this track and carry it through until its end.

Have a read of this snippet from the track:

You can stay here long enough
We can play with Bloody Mary
Say her name into the dark
Activate our nerve endings

If we can stay here long enough
We can play with Bloody Mary
She can chase us through the dark
Activate our nerve endings

I’m not listening to this album alone in the dark but I will be listening!  Neck of the Woods is currently available for pre-order from silversunpickups.com and on iTunes with the album releasing on May 8th which coincides with their performance from the Jimmy Kimmel Live! outdoor stage.

Give Bloody Mary a listen or three:

SILVERSUN PICKUPS NOMINATED FOR BEST NEW ARTIST GRAMMY

Dangerbird Records is proud to announce that Los Angeles-based quartet Silversun Pickups have been nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy Award. For a fully independent band to win this award is incredibly rare, and less than 10 in the history of the Grammys have been nominated overall. No one is taking this for granted, least of all the band. Lead singer Brian Aubert said, “This was never something in our sights. We have never even had a fantasy about this. It just wasn’t on our radar. However, we do feel insanely proud of our label and everyone involved with us. The nod from the Grammys makes us feel real warm inside. We’re astonished, excited, and completely humbled by it.”

The band is currently on tour in Europe supporting Placebo along with doing some headlining shows on days off.. On December 21st, they will appear on The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien to play their current single “Substitution,” from their most recent album, Swoon, which so far has yielded the band’s second #1 Modern Rock single, “Panic Switch.” On January 26, 2010, to begin the show’s sweeps period, Silversun Pickups will be the first band to perform on the Jimmy Kimmel Live outdoor stage after its mid-winter hiatus.

On February 27th, Silversun Pickups begin their much-anticpated North American tour with Muse at Atlanta’s Gwinnett Center. Only six dates have been announced so far. Many more dates are about to be confirmed.
