Proud mama moment here on scrink.com

As many of my regular readers know my son Braeden has his own public charity of which he is the founder and it is called 3B Brae’s Brown Bags Foundation. The mission is to help provide homeless and low-income people within our community by giving them “to-go” bags which provide them with clean water, healthy snacks, a message from Braeden and a list of contact information to services who can provide them with further assistance.

Braeden has packed and delivered over 1,200 brown bags in less than a year with the help of many friends. He very much enjoyed the bag packing events hosted by the Delaware Collegiate 4-H and the UD Food Science Club. He has also received a great amount of help from Alpha Phi Omega the service fraternity on campus. Today, Monday, May 19th he will have a table out near the University of Delaware’s Morris Library fountain as he has been invited to participate in the UD Day of Service from 5 until 7pm.

Right now Braeden’s project is one of 27 national finalists to receive the Lead 360 Challenge Jefferson Award for Public Service. The finalists are participating in a contest to earn votes. The top 5 voted projects will attend the national ceremony in Washington, DC next month.

Please help get 3B Brae’s Brown Bags into the running. No registration is required and it takes only two clicks. One click from the link in this email and once click on the orange vote button on Brae’s page. https://lead360.jeffersonawards.org/challenge/3b-braes-brown-bags/

You can vote one per 24 hour period until midnight on Wednesday, May 21st.

Cheers to Denzel Washington who is just plain awesome

QUIGLEY PUBLISHING COMPANY DENZEL WASHINGTON AND ANNE HATHAWAYThe versatile Denzel Washington (who just turned 58) has been voted the Top Money-Making Star of 2012 in Quigley Publishing Company’s 81st Annual Poll of Motion Picture Exhibitors. He plays a wide variety of roles with ease and outside of acting, well, he’s pretty private and the tabloids don’t seem interested.

With Denzel the drama ends on screen. He has been happily married for 29 years. He’s also served as the national spokesperson for Boys & Girls Clubs of America since 1993. So it’s pretty awesome that a good guy has come out on top.

This is Washington’s eighth appearance in the Quigley Poll, and his first win. Exhibitors felt Washington was responsible for more traffic to movie theatres than any other Hollywood star this year based on his performances in “Flight” and “Safe House.”

Top Ten Money-Making Stars of 2012

  1. Denzel Washington
  2. Anne Hathaway
  3. Hugh Jackman

  5. Johnny Depp
  6. Daniel Craig
  7. Daniel Day-Lewis
  8. Brad Pitt

The only woman in the Top Ten this year, Anne Hathaway, placed second with her roles in “Les Miserables” and as Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises.” Hugh Jackman and Mark Wahlberg, both with their initial Poll appearance, were third and fourth respectively. Jackman was in “Les Miserables” and a voice talent in “Rise of the Guardians” and Wahlberg scored with “Contraband” and in the sleeper hit of the year, “Ted.” Johnny Depp was in “Dark Shadows” and had an uncredited role in “21 Jump Street,” but still managed a fifth this year. He has been in the Top Ten eight times, with wins in 2010, 2007 and 2006.

Daniel Craig made his second showing in the Top Ten in sixth place with “Skyfall” and Daniel Day-Lewis, playing “Lincoln,” had his debut in seventh place. Last year’s winner, Brad Pitt, made it seven years in the Poll and was voted into the eighth spot. Leonardo DiCaprio was ninth with a performance in “Django Unchained” and has been in the Quigley Poll eight times. Robert Downey, Jr. came in tenth with his performance in “The Avengers.”
