DJ Earworm 2013 Top 40 Mashup

earwormOn the way into work this morning I was listening to my favorite radio station which of course is 93.7 WSTW. Their WakeupCrew is the best DJ duo on-air, ever, in my opinion.

Anyway, Spencer Graves played the 2013 DJ Earworm Mashup, of top pop songs in the United States, and it was pretty sweet so I thought I’d share it here.

Who are my Peeples? #PeeplesPerson

FINAL POSTErPeeples not to be confused with the delicious marshmallow Peep or the department store which I am not even sure exists anymore but was once named Peebles. No Peeples is not Popples, I remember those silly stuffed toys that you could turn into balls…yeah, I had several and I’m no ashamed. Soooo Peeple, as in Peeples the new comedy which is set to release in movie theaters on Mother’s Day weekend. A comment on the YouTube trailer says, “Black meet the parents” which I can see that being the case, but you know something Meet The Parents was freaking funny so I’m definitely going to check out Peeples. Plus I really like Kerry Washington, she was in a couple Psych episodes, as Mira Gaffney, you know because she was married to Gus for five seconds. And really who doesn’t love David Grier! DAG!

Anywho, check out the newly released poster for Lionsgate’s upcoming film, PEEPLES. You won’t want to miss this hilarious comedy, full of priceless laugh-out-loud lessons in what NOT to do when meeting your future in-laws,  starring Craig Robinson (Wade Walker), Kerry Washington (Grace Peeples), and David Alan Grier (Virgil Peeples). Catch a glimpse of the chaotic surprises to come in the FINAL POSTER, a family portrait gone wrong!

SYNOPSIS: Sparks fly when Wade Walker (Craig Robinson) crashes the preppy Peeples annual reunion in the Hamptons to ask for their precious daughter Grace’s (Kerry Washington) hand in marriage. Wade might be a fish-out-of-water among this seemingly perfect East Coast clan, but he’s not about to let himself flounder. Instead, in a wild weekend of fun, dysfunction and hilarious surprises, Wade is about to discover there’s room for all kinds of Peeples in this family, no matter their differences. Writer and first-time director Tina Gordon Chism (writer of DRUMLINE) joins forces with Tyler Perry to present a laugh-out-loud look at the family ties that freak us out . . . but bind us together with love.

PEEPLES will hit theaters everywhere on May 10, 2013 be sure to watch the trailer posted above the title! So funny!

Summer Sleeves EP is so appropriate as it snows on the first full day of Spring

andrew-leahey-the-homesteadMixed by David Barbe (Drive-By Truckers, REM, Son Volt), and co-produced by Leahey, it’s the sound of the modern South: music for city highways and country lanes, for pop fans and roots rockers, for the heart as well as the heartland.

American Songwriter says: “Summer Sleeves is a sonic tribute to the sounds of the south and Nashville – Virginia-native Leahey’s adopted hometown – and blends influences from the likes of Whiskeytown, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan along with rock roots, twangy steel guitar and thoughtful lyrics.”

The Nashville-based Leahey recorded the songs with the Homestead, a group of childhood friends and Virginia-based musicians who added organ, harmonized guitar riffs, pedal steel, and three-part harmonies to the mix. Get a taste with 1st single Little In Love: Watch the video via YouTube or free download via Soundcloud.

“I was reliving everything you said…” new video from Minus the Bear

So I am a Minus the Bear fan, have been for several years, but I haven’t really gotten into any of their new material until this morning when I listened to their second single off their latest album, song “Listing” and album Infinity Overhead (Dangerbird Records).

Okay, I’ll admit, the song starts out sounding like something my nine-year-old son would put together on his keyboard downstairs in our basement. But as I continued listening other textures and elements were added to the song and now I love it! Plus it has a fully animated video which I adore, I feel like I should take screenshots and create a wall calendar with the illustrations. Jesse LeDoux (known for Yo Gabba Gabba) was the designer and director and it was produced by an animation studio Six Point Harness. The band members faces on animated bodies crack me up.
Rug Burn is hosting the video on their YouTube Channel.

Minus the Bear will team up with Circa Survive for a co-headline tour to take place this. Dubbed the Waves Overhead Tour, the tour will kick off March 6 in Columbus, Ohio, end March 30 in Oklahoma City and feature main support from Minneapolis-based indie rockers Now, Now. Minus the Bear will bookend the tour with a brief headline run of the Midwest and Western U.S.

White feathers and Google Play leave me streaming Melodies

PsyfeathersHaving just been out on maternity leave for 10 weeks I lost touch with a lot. Seriously, it has been shameful, I didn’t know who the white-feathered dude on stage during the New Year’s Eve celebrations was and when he started jumping around with MC Hammer, dancing all horse-like I was just amazed he was allowed stage time. So I found out his name is Psy. Then I asked out loud (to my husband and our three kids) what the hell he was wearing, singing and doing!? What is this Gangnam Style and WHY WHY has it taken over social media. Of all things to go viral, really people horse dancing? Yes, I’m not with the times and in this case that is okay with me.

The only thing that could make Psy and his Gangnam business remotely interesting to me is the fact that UDance did a Gangnam Style flash mob on the University of Delaware’s Green while I was out. Had I been in my office at UD I probably would have gone up-campus to see it in person. Fortunately for me there is YouTube.

google-play_616Another things I had not been aware of was the music player Google released. Google Play, which also stores books and games, allows for 20,000 songs to be uploaded and then streamed from anywhere via your Google Login. I can create playlists at home and listen to them at work. It’s lovely, DRM Free and I’m giddy. Plus the Google Music Store is MUCH cheaper than the Apple Music Store. Let me tell you how much $1.29 for ONE song infuriated me! OH IT DID!

What is in your Work Playlist? I can tell you what is NOT in mine and that would be Gangnam Style. I have some Fun., Foster the People, Imagine Dragons, Tears for Fears, Simple Minds, U2, Def Leppard, Lee Brice and Zac Brown Band to name a handful.

Even though it’s easier to stream on Android based phones, I was able to find an app for my iPhone, too. With the Melodies app on my iPhone I can stream during my drive or while in the shower.

Google Play = Awesomeness
