The White Aura by Felicia Tatum is available FREE permanently!

white-aura-felicia-tatumFirst I’d just like to share that I have read this book AND the sequel. The White Aura is currently #3 in the Amazon Kindle Store on their Paranormal & Urban list. If it were up to me it would be #1. This book was a page turner like no other, I simply could not put it down, even in a state of exhaustion after a long day of work all I could think about was being able to read this book. Which means as soon as I was done I immediately downloaded the sequel which is called The Vessel. I’ve also finished The Vessel which ends in such a way that I’m aching to read the third book. Felicia Tatum, the fab author of this series, has let me know she is currently working on the 3rd book in this series which will be called “Devlin’s Descendant.”

Synopsis: How do you live with the gut clenching truth that the one you love will die if you meet them? Twenty year old sorcerer Scott Tabors is learning how. After seeing seventeen year old Olivia Whitehead outside of a coffee shop, his heart will never be the same. He longs for her, he wants her, and he knows she will be his. They are heart mates. …but due to a curse on his family, he can’t meet her. Not yet. So for now, he visits her in her dreams. Her dreams where he can tell her everything but his name.

Olivia Whitehead is a typical junior in high school. She and her best friend are having the time of their lives, but she can’t help but notice the changes happening to her. Especially the changes in her heart after she begins dreaming about a mysterious dark haired young man. But what will happen when the school heartthrob decides he wants Olivia? Will she realize the dream man is real or will she move on?

Maurice Sendak, has gone to be where the wild things are

Beloved and pioneering writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak (June 10, 1928 – May 8, 2012) has passed away at 83 from complications of a stroke.

Sendak gained international acclaim after writing and illustrating Where the Wild Things Are.

Sendak was an early member of the National Board of Advisors of the Children’s Television Workshop during the development stages of the Sesame Street television series. He also adapted his book Bumble Ardy into an animated sequence for the series, with Jim Henson as the voice of Bumble Ardy.

Sendak chose the Rosenbach Museum & Library in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to be the repository for his work in the early 1970s.

Fresh Air on NPR remembers Maurice Sendak in an article and podcast published yesterday which can be found here.

Awards and honors

Sendak was honored in North Hollywood, California, where an elementary school was named after him.

Do you love a book so much you want everyone to read it?

World Book Night launched in the UK in 2011 and saw passionate readers across that beautiful country, give 1 million books to light or non readers to spread the joy and love of reading. Reading changes lives and at the heart of World Book Night lies the simplest of ideas and acts – that of putting a book into another person’s hand and saying ‘this one’s amazing, you have to read it’.

Now, it’s our time to join the cause.

World Book Night 2012 will be held on April 23 – in the US and the UK – and they are looking for 50,000 volunteer book givers to hand out 20 copies each – for a total of 1 million free special World Book Night paperbacks!

I have registered to be a Book Giver on April 23, 2012 in the United States. The book I wish to give to twenty strangers is I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings which is Maya Angelou‘s first memoir. In my email signature at work I have an image which simply states “A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.” This is sen in every message I send to anyone throughout my work day and it is something I am happy to include because I love the sentiment it carries.

“Here is a book as joyous and painful, and as mysterious and memorable, as childhood itself. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings captures the longing of lonely children, the brute insult of bigotry, and the wonder of words that can make the world right. Maya Angelou’s first memoir, published in 1969 is a modern American classic beloved worldwide.”

If you would like to be a participant in this year’s World Book Night, please click here before February 1, 2012.

My theory on #Pottermore … MMORPG

The world is wanting more from Pottermore. I can’t say that I blame them. I listened to the YouTube video tease of JK Rowling talking about how people want more from the Harry Potter series and so she has created Pottermore. She goes on to say the users, the readers of the series, are going to be the creators and so I wonder if Pottermore is going to be an online gaming world. Could it be that Pottermore will be an MMORPG?

Could Pottermore be the next WoW? (WoW is World of Warcraft for those of you who are only literary geeks and not full blown geeks like myself).

Because if she went there…hell yes she would succeed.

JK Rowling could definitely get the backing and if you think about it the Harry Potter series has well enough content to create a massive and magic world for people to play and game. I think that is what Pottermore will be and I think people, while they are complaining right now because they want more books, I think they will go batshit crazy if it ends up being an MMORPG.

And I am completely pulling this out of the clear blue sky. I have read no reports. But if you infer from what we have heard thus far and if you look at the screens and you if you think about what she says in her video it kind of makes sense.

You would become a student at Hogwarts. Or a muggle perhaps. Or maybe even a Deatheater?

You would have a territory to start. You could work up to being a professor, a teacher, a dark lord, I don’t know.

There are a million and a half things that could be done and created if this became that kind of game. And yes people would pay money and keep paying money for this and the Harry Potter fans would be able to keep Harry Potter magic in their lives on a daily basis. The story would live on and you would become a character in the story, so to speak.

Am I wrong? Maybe. But this is what I’m sticking with. You heard it here first…

If it ends up that she really did just create a simple Harry Potter fan site like the million which already exist than I am sorry to all those who wanted more… because it’s not Potter MORE at all.

“I’m not interested in creating a book that is read once and then placed on the shelf and forgotten. I am very happy when people have worn out my books, or that they’re held together by Scotch tape.”

Happy Birthday to my homie, Dr. Seuss!

Did you know Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, would have been 107 years old today? He would have been so cool to talk to, don’t you think? And like a good man should, he thanked his Mom for his awesomeness. His mother, Henrietta Seuss Geisel, often soothed her children to sleep by “chanting” rhymes remembered from her youth. Ted credited his mother with both his ability and desire to create the rhymes for which he became so well known. :)

Did you know Dr. Seuss’ works accumulated two Academy Awards, two Emmys, a Peabody and a Pulitzer? The man rocked in so many ways, but in the way he was the best was in touching the hearts of so many people around the world with his imagination.

In honor of this great man here is are some trading cards you can download and print out, you should your card stock if you have any available:

And here is a fantastic Green Eggs and Ham coloring page to print out and color:

At the time of his death on September 24, 1991, Ted had written and illustrated 44 children’s books, including four of the 10 best-selling children’s books of all time, including “The Cat in the Hat;” “Green Eggs and Ham;” “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish;” and “Hop on Pop.”
