Veronica Mars movie in theaters today, win the DVD

veronica marsI am a Veronica Mars fan and I’m not the only one. It’s incredibly awesome though that thanks to a historic crowdfunding campaign, this is the first movie made BY FANS. In fact, fans raised $5 million dollars to get this movie produced and sent to the big screens. Incredible!

Not only did fans raise the money but somehow the amazing Rob Thomas is who was picked to produce the flick! I think this just goes to show how powerful us everyday folk can really be. Very cool!

The premise of the movie is as follows:

“On the eve of graduating law school, Veronica Mars has put Neptune and her amateur sleuthing days behind her. While interviewing at high-end New York law firms, Veronica Mars gets a call from her ex-boyfriend Logan who has been accused of murder. Veronica heads back to Neptune just to help Logan find an attorney, but when things don’t seem right with how Logan’s case is perceived and handled, Veronica finds herself being pulled back into a life she thought she had left behind.”

20140220-205036.jpgThe folks casting for Marvel’s upcoming film “Guardians of the Galaxy,” have done very well with the decisions. The movie will be starring actors and actresses such as, Zoë Saldana, Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Glenn Close, Lee Pace and John C. Reilly.

The movie is about Pratt’s character Peter Quill, otherwise known as Star Lord, who assembles a team of aliens to help protect him from the extraterrestrial villain Ronan (Pace).

Very fun!

Valentine cartoons just aren’t what they used to be

Where are the class valentine cartoons with the skunk.. what was his name? Pepe Le Pew! Yes! Valentine’s Day was his day! Remember how he used to chase after that black kitty cat, I don’t remember her name either but he thought she was a female skunk. She, of course, took offense because um he thought she was a skunk. No I think she took offense because he was overly assertive about his pursuit. Maybe if he as more casual about his affections things could have worked out for the two critters.

I’m also super fond of the Valentine card we had growing up with Rainbow Brite or the Jetsons, they were so much cooler than the cards you can find in the stores now. Which is why my kids make their own Valentine’s from printables that I find online and we cut them out and each person gets something more individual.

So one of our readers will win a movie from this list at random, but let’s be honest all of them would be an awesome prize so whichever you end up winning for your kids will be loved!

Super Bowl Ads will be the best part of the game this year for sure

My husband has to work during the Super Bowl and neither of the teams we like are in the big game so really all it has going for it are the commercials and of course whatever snacks I decide to make for me and the kids.

One of the talked about ads this year will not be airing and it is for SodaStream. Sadly, Pepsi said they simply won’t allow the competition. Coke on the other hand didn’t really care one way or the other, probably because their commercials are usually awesome anyway.

A commercial which will be airing is one by the America’s Wetland Foundation and it has a super cool story.

The America’s WETLAND Foundation (AWF) will launch its new ‘GAME ON!’ campaign to save coastal Louisiana with an advertisement titled ‘Eagle,’ during Super Bowl XLVIII, expected to be one of the most-watched television events of the year.

game-on-ad“Seventy-four percent of people in this state consider saving the coast to be the most important issue of our lifetime,” said AWF Chair R. King Milling, referencing a statewide poll released last week by the Foundation “The public knows we’re out of time. But we have a plan in place, and if we come together now, we have a chance to accomplish something truly extraordinary.”

AWF’s ad will feature young Louisiana football players as part of a call for teamwork to save the coast for future generations. Louisiana loses the equivalent of a football field of land every 50 minutes, a fact first popularized by AWF when it created a virtual ‘flooding’ of LSU’s Tiger Stadium ten years ago to raise awareness of coastal land loss. Since then, the football field metaphor has helped to generate billions of media impressions throughout the country and around the world.

AWF’s poll found that 97 percent of voters believe it will take a team effort of government, industry, education and non-profit organizations to the restore the coast, agreeing that a unified effort is the best hope for coastal restoration and protection, not assigning blame for what has been lost.

“It’s time for us all to get our game on and that’s the message we’re taking to the public on Super Bowl Sunday,” said AWF Senior Advisor Sidney Coffee. “Think of everything that is rooted in the coastal landscape that is disappearing so rapidly – the unique cultures and communities, vital national economic assets, and a truly critical ecosystem of global significance. With so much at stake, we hope this is one of those Super Bowl ads people remember.”

AWF’s new GAME ON! ‘Eagle’ ad will run both before and during Super Bowl coverage on Fox affiliates and Cox Media throughout southern Louisiana. The ad was produced by Compose Digital Design and Marmillion / Gray Media, both based in Baton Rouge.

Win a Blu-ray copy of the critically acclaimed movie DIANA #giveaway

diana_BD3DOn February 11, 2014 the BluRay edition of the movie DIANA will be released. One lucky scrink.com reader will win a copy of the movie!

Sixteen years after her sudden death, acclaimed director Oliver Hirschbiegel (the Oscar®-nominated Downfall) explores Diana’s secret love affair with Pakistani heart surgeon Hasnat Khan (NAVEEN ANDREWS, “Lost,” The English Patient), the human complications of which reveal the Princess’s climactic days in a compelling new light.  Hirschbiegel directed from a screenplay by award-winning playwright Stephen Jeffreys, inspired by the book  Diana: Her Last Love by Kate Snell, which was in turn drawn from extensive interviews with close friends and confidantes.  The result is a window into the tumultuous, change-filled period from 1995-1997, in the wake of Diana’s shattering divorce from Prince Charles, and at the moment when she stood on the cusp of a different life, evolving into a global humanitarian, a master of maneuvering fame and becoming her own woman.

The Blu-ray also includes exclusive bonus interviews with the cast and crew, as well as a 16-page DIANA Fashion Photo Booklet, which looks at how the filmmakers captured Diana’s iconic fashion style.

Jason Bateman stealing hearts and angering parents in new flick BAD WORDS

OH MY GOSH! This looks so hilarious! I cannot stop laughing…breathe, breathe Christy! Seriously, even if the only funny parts were in this trailer, which I am sure is not the case, this is probably the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages. No seriously. So funny! So wrong though, so wrong!

Jason Bateman makes his directorial debut with the subversive comedy, BAD WORDS.

Bateman stars as Guy Trilby, a 40-year old who finds a loophole in the rules of the National Quill Spelling Bee and decides to cause trouble by hijacking the competition.  Contest officials, outraged parents, and overly ambitious 8th graders are no match for Guy, as he ruthlessly crushes their dreams of victory and fame.

As a reporter attempts to discover his true motivation, Guy finds himself forging an unlikely alliance with a competitor: awkward 10-year old Chaitanya (Rohan Chand of ‘Homeland’), who is completely unfazed by Guy’s take-no-prisoners approach to life.

The movie also stars Alison Janney, Kathryn Hahn and Phillip Baker Hall.
