Little bit of other worldly; Ashtar Command
I’m not going to lie. I’m a little afraid of Ashtar Command. Why? Because they talk about the recycling of Earth as we know it and how their band is a way of life and such. It’s just awfully intense, don’t you think? But you might be familiar with their music because the once popular prime-time show The O.C. picked up their track “Into Dust” and put it on their season 6 soundtrack.
“We are at the dawn of a new age. It is time for the earth to be recycled…”
Thus is the message of the Ashtar Command, formed by DJ/producer Chris Holmes and former Nine Inch Nails member and Filter founder Brian Liesegang. In “Gravity,” the debut video (watch here) from their forthcoming album American Sunshine Vol. 1, their devoted followers embark on a mass soul departure that exemplifies everything right about fringe belief systems. The video is the first in a series of short films that will coincide with the release of the LP over the next year.
Ashtar Command is more than just a band – it is a living and breathing collaboration. It symbolizes the dawning of music’s new era, a time where artists are rewarded for their independence, and audiences are rewarded with art that is not bound by the shackles of mainstream pop culture.
