Birthday Bash in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Yesterday, the Sammy Hagar Birthday Bash tickets went on sale. His birthday is October 13th and he is having quite the celebration, like he does all year long, haha, but every year he has a birthday celebration and people go out to the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Mexico to celebrate with him. There are four shows this year, 500 tickets each show and the shows sold out in a matter of minutes. But I scored two tickets to the October 7th show which is a Friday night, the opening show for the birthday bash in Mexico.

Time to get a passport.

Brian and I are flying to Mexico in less than two months.

In addition to the birthday bash, Sammy Hagar has so many other things he is doing. He is 63 years old and has been building a legend of himself.

He’s not just a rock singer. And he knows it. Everyone who knows anything about him knows it. And anyone who has read his book, Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock, knows it.

But just in case you’re not into books, he’s also creating a film.

“Go There Once Be There Twice” is how rock singer Sammy Hagar is billing his documentary.

“The movie captures quite a few decades of my life,” he says during a recent phone interview. “It’s been a labor of love, and it’s ready to be released to the world.”

Hagar says the most difficult part in making the film was editing it.

“We had 300 hours of film and edited it down to 52 minutes,” he says. “Every time I cut something out of the film, it stung. Each part told a story, but that’s why I hired a good editor. He made the film shine.”

The documentary tells the story of Hagar’s love for Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. It was more than 30 years ago when Hagar visited the destination and fell in love with it.

“I decided to open Cabo Wabo, and it’s been a party since,” he says.

Every Oct. 13, which is Hagar’s birthday, he plays a string of shows in the city to celebrate.

My husband and I will be home in Delaware before October 13, our son Braeden turns 8 on the 12th, but we’ll blow out an extra candle for Sammy. And we’ll make sure to get in plenty of celebrating during the time we’re in Mexico for his Birthday Bash.

So! So! Excited!
