I Left My Heart In San Francisco, 50 Years On

When you think of musicians who have been delighting the ears of millions listeners as long as Tony Bennett has, you are instantly reminded of a signature track that has played such a monumental role in defining his career.  For Tony Bennett, that track is undoubtedly the classic “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”.  Released January 23, 1962, Bennett’s hallmark tune has been dancing on the airwaves, in your headphones and through your speakers for 50 years.

Fittingly it earned him his first Grammy award for “Record of the Year” and started him down the path of future nominations and wins, including a nomination this year for his album “Duets II”, featuring the legendary Bennett himself along with Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood, Aretha Franklin, John Mayer, the late Amy Winehouse and a host of others.

In celebration of the release of Duets II, PBS’ Great Performances is broadcasting “Tony Bennett: Duets II” visually presenting the full performances from this #1 album on Friday January 27.  (check your local listings, you don’t want to miss this!)
