Children. Brilliant in their innocence and optimism. Laughing, smiling, singing, dancing, wearing super hero capes and trying on their mom’s shoes. That is what we want to believe and hold onto whenever we think of children we know. As a Mom two two children, with one on the way, I cannot help but smile whenever I think of my kids. Just last night my sweet Finn wasn’t feeling well and he fell asleep in my arms prior to normal bedtime. His breath, his heart beat, the sounds he makes when he is falling into a deep sleep and the little twitches as his muscles relax. All of those things are treasures. My love for my children is immeasurable. They are the light of my very soul.
We all know the world is an imperfect place. People, humans, have flaws it’s inescapable.
However, I believe the world also has some people who have sold their soul and become monsters. These monsters sell children to sex slave imprisonments. You may be thinking the problem is irrelevant and not close to home because it couldn’t possibly happen in the United States and it must be a small percentage. I’m hear to tell you it DOES happen in the US and even one endangered child is too many.
In the US, every single night, in every single city, girls and boys as young as 1-2 years old are sold for sex to adult men. Children as young as 8 years old walk the streets with prices on their heads of $500 – $1500 a night to bring in for their pimps.
Here is an excerpt from an article printed last May in Vanity Fair:
A pound of heroin or an AK-47 can be retailed once, but a young girl can be sold 10 to 15 times a day—and a “righteous” pimp confiscates 100 percent of her earnings.
“There are basically two business models: manipulating girls through violence—that’s called ‘gorilla’ pimping—and controlling them with drugs,” says Patel, who prosecuted the case of New York–based trafficker Corey Davis, a.k.a. “Magnificent.” A high-living, highly educated pimp who kept the slave master’s manifesto The Willie Lynch Letter and the Making of a Slave in his Mercedes, Davis, Patel says, made sex slaves out of, among others, a 12-year-old runaway and a university coed on a track scholarship. To force them to do his bidding, Davis allegedly sliced a girl in his “stable” with a box cutter and stomped others into submission with a special pair of Timberland boots—a technique known as “Timming.”

THE biggest forum for sex trafficking of under-age girls in the United States appears to be a Web site called Backpage.com.
This emporium for girls and women — some under age or forced into prostitution — is in turn owned by an opaque private company called Village Voice Media. Until now it has been unclear who the ultimate owners are.
That mystery is solved. The owners turn out to include private equity financiers, including Goldman Sachs with a 16 percent stake.
(Goldman Sachs sold all 16% of their stake during the Backpage investigation.)
In one recent case in New York City, prosecutors say that a 15-year-old girl was drugged, tied up, raped and sold to johns through Backpage and other sites.
In Washington State, the governor signed a bill into law on Thursday that could expose Backpage to criminal sanctions if it advertises under-age girls for sex without verifying their ages. (There’s some uncertainty about the constitutionality of the law.)
You can read the full article about Backpage at the New York Times website, an article published on March 31, 2012.
The people who pretend situations like what you’ve read above do not exist; they are monsters, too. I have always believed that silence is acceptance. And I have always said, I choose not to accept these types of tragedies from continuing. If more people took the time to research and realize how scary this world can be then perhaps more people would take the time to try and make it better.
I have been hurt before in ways which needn’t be shared. But sex trade of children or adults cuts to my very core. I ache for these people. For the children who are scared into submission and find themselves lost I pray, I send healing energy their way that they will be saved.
Please, if you can donate $1, $5 or whatever amount you can spare, please do so. My friend Claudia Christian, the author of Alex the Fey, Learning to Stand and many other timeless books is supporting this cause. She intends to raise $1,000 in a short time and I want all of my readers to help if you can.
