Borrowing this image from the beautifully intelligent Pauline Beshore. After I saw the image this morning it got me thinking, so I’m sharing my thoughts below.
It is difficult to have discussions when folks stand on opposite sides of burnt bridges. Those discussions end up with a lot of shouting and miscommunication. Instead, we need to find a way to rebuild bridges, we need to spend more time listening quietly before responding. And our responses while passionate should also be driven by facts over fear, love over hate, and humility over ego.
I stand with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris because I applaud their desire to heal the nation, to provide equitable support to our most vulnerable populations, and to welcome immigrants who can give much more to our society through open doors than walls or fences.
My hope is that we will move forward, but still, we must hold accountable people who feel that treason is patriotic, we must be transparent with our goals and visions, we must work together and find a way to meet in the middle instead of shouting across a bridgeless divide.
